Terry brooks shannara map2/13/2024 ![]() The dialog is often painful, and painfully modern. Which, let's face it, sounds kind of a lot like a CW show like The 100 or Arrow.Īll of that could have been forgiven if the Shannara Chronicles simply had better writing. ![]() It's pretty much an incoherent mess, with just enough good bits of action and suspense to keep you watching. This is our own world thousands of years later, but we're only really reminded of this (or informed of it) when we see things like a rusty truck suddenly appear in the middle of nowhere, or a gas-mask adorned troll. We zip from here to there, racing through huge plot developments at breakneck speed, never really stopping to breathe.įinally, the setting is hard to swallow. How much time has even passed? It seems characters can move all about the realms in just a matter of hours, traveling from the elven capital Arborlon to any other point on the map instantly. Meanwhile, we move through everything so quickly it's honestly a little hard to get our bearings. There's very little humor in the Shannara Chronicles, and far too much earnestness. It's all pretty cheesy, and made more so by just how sincere everyone comes across as. We've been having a good time guessing at the true origin of Jon Snow, but in Shannara we're told straight off the bat that young Wil Ohmsford (Austin Butler) is the last in a long line of magic elf kings (the titular Shannara.) It's pretty hard to take jokes about elf ears seriously. We're accustomed to Game of Thrones at this point. Can't anyone be dirty and unkempt from time to time?īeyond this, the story itself is almost too campy and D&D/Lord of the Rings like to be truly satisfying in this day and age. Actually, I think a lot of young fantasy viewers would prefer more characters like Allanon, who actually gets a bit cut up and dirty, and has a couple more decades under his belt. Just because something is "Young Adult" doesn't mean all the actors need to be perfect looking 20-year-olds without personalities who are immune to dust and grime. This has long been the CW's strategy when it comes to appealing to younger viewers, but I'm not sure it actually makes much sense. ![]() This insistence on youth and beauty and perfect cleanliness makes the entire thing feel fake in ways the CGI could never accomplish. Even in the midst of battle, in the middle of the woods, running from a demon, everyone is perfectly appointed. Everybody is 20 to 24 years old and beautiful. Probably the first thing that annoyed me about The Shannara Chronicles is just how much it feels like a CW show. Wil (Austin Butler), Amberle (Poppy Drayton), Eretria (Ivana Baquero) (Credit: MTV) Unfortunately, if you start to actually pay attention or question stuff about the show, its flaws aren't hard to find. It's the sort of low-calorie fantasy you can easily watch and enjoy if you turn off most of the critical faculties in your brain for an hour. The fights and magic and action really ramp up the show's energy. ![]() One shape-changing demon is particularly scary. The demons are sufficiently creepy and there's some good fight scenes. There's some good special effects at work here, too, though nothing mind-blowing. But the younger stars, from Austin Butler to Poppy Drayton, all do a decent job as well, especially given some of the lines they're asked to deliver with a straight face. The acting is decent, especially from Lord of the Rings veteran John Rhys-Davies and Arrow and Hobbit alumni Manu Bennett as the elven king Eventine and druid Allanon respectively. I enjoyed it enough to have fun watching, even if sometimes that fun was derived from laughing at it a little. The Dagda Mor Unleashes An Evil Demon Into The Four Lands (Credit: MTV)ĭown below, I'm going to really tear into the Shannara Chronicles, but before I do that, I think it's important to note one very important tidbit: I'm actually glad I had the chance to watch the first four episodes of the show. (3) They participate in protein encoding, as some circRNAs can be translated into peptides by ribosomes. CircRNAs interact with RBPs to form an RNA-protein complex, affecting RBP-mediated gene expression. They bind to RNA and facilitate its processing and translation. Various RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) play crucial roles in RNA splicing, RNA stabilization, and mRNA translation. (2) They participate in regulatory protein binding. (1) As they contain a large number of micro-RNA (miRNA) binding sites, they serve as molecular sponges and compete for miRNA binding to target mRNAs, thereby upregulating the expression of target genes. ĬircRNAs have four main biological functions (Fig. The half-life of circRNAs exceeds that of the associated linear mRNA, as the covalent closed-loop structure lacks 5′ and 3′ends, which makes circRNAs more resistant to the exonuclease RNase R. The expression of the same circRNA varies greatly under diseased and non-diseased conditions, among tissues, and during different time periods. observed circRNA expression in fungi, plants, and prokaryotes, reflecting a high degree of conservation and widespread distribution among species. used the genome-wide RNase R enrichment method to detect >25,000 circRNAs in fibroblasts. CircRNAs are relatively evolutionarily conserved in different species. About 80% of circRNAs are EciRNAs localized mainly to the cytoplasm, whereas ciRNAs and EIciRNAs are often localized to the nucleus. CircRNAs can be divided into four categories based on their sequence origin: (1) exonic circular RNAs (EciRNAs) derived from exons of the parent gene (2) lasso-type or circular intronic RNAs (ciRNAs) derived from introns (3) exonic–intronic circular RNAs (EIciRNAs) derived from both exons and introns and (4) other circRNAs, including those derived from antisense strand transcripts (antisense circRNAs) and those derived from intergenic sequences or other unannotated genomic sequences (intergenic circRNAs). Most circRNAs originate from exons in gene coding regions others originate from 3′–untranslated regions (UTRs), 5'-UTRs, introns, intergenic regions, and antisense RNA. We anticipate that this summary of current knowledge will facilitate the development of strategies to target circRNAs in the immune microenvironments of human cancers.ĬircRNA is a class of non-coding RNA generated from precursor messenger RNA (mRNA). In this review, we discuss the roles of circRNAs in the regulation of immune cells, immune-related molecules, and tumor immunity. Recent studies have demonstrated that circRNAs are involved in cancer development and immune responses. However, therapeutic responses, especially those of solid tumors, have been unsatisfactory in clinical trials and clinical applications. With rapid developments in oncology, immunology, molecular biology, and related disciplines, immunotherapies such as immune checkpoint inhibitors, tumor vaccines, and adoptive cell therapy have revolutionized cancer treatment. The immune response coordinates a variety of immune cells and has antiviral, antibacterial, and antitumor functions. The immune system maintains homeostasis through immunomodulation, surveillance, and the prevention of pathogen invasion. Recently, with advances in high-throughput sequencing technology, increasing numbers of circRNAs have been characterized and their roles and mechanisms have become active areas of investigation. Due to its low expression and the limitations of detection technology, circRNA was originally considered to be an aberrant product of RNA splicing. accidentally discovered a normal novel RNA product. ![]() CircRNA was discovered in 1976 when the Sanger team studied virus-like RNAs. Luckily I don't have to do this very often or I would have rated the game lower. This makes me have to get out of the driving seat and go over to my computer to use the mouse (yuck!). I will say that the adventure portion of the game is not as fun as Grand Theft Auto since you never leave the car, but the driving portion of the game is much better than driving in Grand Theft Auto.Īlso the interface for NFS Most Wanted kind of sucks because I can not use my driving wheel to navigate all the menus without using the mouse. So I do not have an opinion of the online play yet. I have only played the game once online and got my butt handed to me so I decided I should beat the game first for practice, then I will try the online portion again. I boutght NFS Most Wanted to play online. You never see the other cars in DIRT only a marker showing your place relative to the other cars (again not so fun). ![]() In GTR you have to wait forever for the race to start, and the tracks are so long you rarely see other cars (you might as well race alone). I do not like the online game play of GTR or DIRT though. For streight racing DIRT is still my favorite. The actual racing part of the game is not as realistic as GTR or DIRT, but it adds a whole story line and virtual world that makes it more of an adventure typ game than GTR or DIRT. Trust me when i say the added features are not worth the added cost. NFS Most Wanted is a must have game but, save your money when it comes to Black Edition. I beleived that Black Edition was going to be a complete makeover from the Game Cube game. I let all the hype around Black Edition make my descision when buying it. In B lack Edition it will now rain, there are birds, the graphics blurr from speed, the sky changes colors, there are some new Police cars and you get a few bonus graphics.ĭon't get me wrong i really like Need for Speed Most Wanted and welcome Black Edition into my NFS collection but, i really feel short changed. ![]() I could have bought Most Wanted and saved a lot of money. So, overall i have been very disappointed. ![]() There was nothing of real importance on the disk. The bonus cd was in my opinion was a wasted effort and only added to the hype. Also Black Edition only offers one new challenge (Black Edition Challenge) which i defeated very easy with the beautiful Camero SS which sadly you don't win the car. Most Wanted for Game Cube is now my favorite game so i was really up to the extras Black Edition offered.įirst the bonus cars in Black Edition can only be used in the quick races. I read all the hype about the extra cars, tracks and the new challenges. As with the previous Need for Speed: Underground, much of the game is styled around the illicit street racing scene, and as in earlier games such as Need for Speed III and Hot Pursuit 2, many of the Most Wanted's challenges involve not only getting from one place to another in the fastest time, but avoiding ambitious law enforcement officers (in souped-up vehicles of their own) all along the way.Īlong with all the features of the regular version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted, the "Black" edition of the game offers two exclusive vehicles ('67 Camaro and BMW M3 GTR), eight specially pre-customized vehicles, three exclusive races, an additional Pursuit Challenge, exclusive and unlocked vinyls, and an DVD video containing trailers, game art, interviews, and other behind-the-scenes content.īeing a race fan and Need For Speed collector i just had to own NFS Most Wanted Black Edition. Most Wanted is built upon many of the fan-favorite features and modes from previous games in the series, including a forgiving yet credible physics engine, vehicles of real-life makes and models, and state-of-the-art graphics. Chicken infographic2/12/2024 The following list, based on Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14, identifies many of the animals God designates as clean and unclean. God may simply be telling us that it's better for us believers not to consume the meat of these trash collectors". "Could it be that God, in His wisdom, created certain creatures whose sole purpose is to clean up after the others? Their entire 'calling' may be to act exclusively as the sanitation workers of our ecology. When we eat such animals we partake of a food chain that includes things harmful to people. Shellfish such as oysters, clams and mussels similarly consume decaying organic matter that sinks to the sea floor, including sewage.Ī common denominator of many of the animals God designates as unclean is that they routinely eat flesh that would sicken or kill human beings. When it comes to sea creatures, bottom dwellers such as lobsters and crabs scavenge for dead animals on the sea floor. Predatory animals such as wolves, lions, leopards and cheetahs most often prey on the weakest (and at times the diseased) in animal herds. In listing the animals that should not be eaten, God forbids the consumption of scavengers and carrion eaters, which devour other animals for their food.Īnimals such as pigs, bears, vultures and raptors can eat (and thrive) on decaying flesh. He gave His laws (including those of which meats are clean or unclean) "that it might be well" with those who seek to obey Him (Deuteronomy 5:29).Īlthough God did not reveal the specific reasons some animals may be eaten and others must be avoided, we can make generalized conclusions based on the animals included in the two categories. Why does God identify some animals as suitable for human consumption and others as unsuitable? God didn't give laws to arbitrarily assert control over people. Insects, with the exception of locusts, crickets and grasshoppers, are listed as unclean (Leviticus 11:20-23). He identifies carrion eaters and birds of prey as unclean, plus ostriches, storks, herons and bats.īirds such as chickens, turkeys and pheasants are not on the unclean list and therefore can be eaten. God also lists birds and other flying creatures that are unclean for consumption (Leviticus 11:13-19). He tells us that salt and freshwater fish with fins and scales may be eaten (Leviticus 11:9-12), but water creatures without those characteristics (catfish, lobsters, crabs, shrimp, mussels, clams, oysters, squid, octopi, etc.) should not be eaten. ![]() ![]() He later lists such "creeping things" as moles, mice and lizards as unfit to eat (Leviticus 11:29-31), as well as four-footed animals with paws (cats, dogs, bears, lions, tigers, etc.) as unclean (Leviticus 11:27). He also lists such animals as camels, rabbits and pigs as being unclean, or unfit to eat (Leviticus 11:4-8). These specifically include the cattle, sheep, goat, deer and gazelle families (Deuteronomy 14:4-5). God states that cud-chewing animals with split hooves can be eaten (Leviticus 11:3 Deuteronomy 14:6). Tangerine glass animals lyrics2/12/2024 ![]() And we’re in an age where everyone’s missing someone right now…in a pandemic. Ultimately, It’s about realizing that it’s okay to miss somebody, and letting yourself miss that person. So every time that we get up to June, I start thinking about that person. Because I lost someone important to me and their birthday’s in June, hence the lyric (“Sometimes, all I think about is you, Late nights in the middle of June”). Ultimately, not being able to go out and see that person. It’s about missing somebody and not being able to do anything about it. It’s a slightly sad song, but it’s sad with a big, optimistic edge. ![]() Can you tell the story behind that song?īayley: Absolutely. They write really personal songs, and they make you feel less lonely because they’re so personal.ĭK: Your song “Heat Waves” has become a worldwide hit. And I realized that a lot of my favorite songwriters-I love Bill Withers, Nina Simone, Brian Wilson-they write from the heart. And we received all these letters about how the song helped people get through something…people who had been through similar experiences. We’d start playing the song, and people in the front row would start crying and then I’d start crying. They said, “You have to put the song on the album.” And then the response from people was unlike anything we’ve had. Still, I wrote “Agnes” and I played it for the guys in the band. That’s Dave Bayley plsying all the people in this video. ![]() Here’s the funny video of Glass Animals’ single, “Tangerine.” My mum always said, “Don’t talk about yourself.” I was quite uncomfortable writing about myself directly and writing about personal experiences. At first I didn’t want to release that song…I thought it was too personal, and that it gave too much away and was too honest. Was that song a turning point for you, to write more personal songs with lyrical depth?īayley: Absolutely…that song was a huge turning point. I wrote some personal songs for all sorts of reasons.ĭK: The last song on your previous album, “Agnes,” was a powerful song about a person who committed suicide. Now finally for this third record, I gained the confidence to be a bit more personal. Then for the second album, we went out and talked to the people that we met, and I was writing loosely about how I identified with those people. The words were basically being used as another instrument. With the lyrics, the words were almost chosen for the sounds and the way they lent themselves to the music. I guess the first album was quite abstract this was mainly because I think I was really shy. Can you talk about the making of this album, and your vision for it?ĭave Bayley: It’s been a progression from our first album through the second, and now to the third album. He discusses the making of their Dreamland album, and their singles “Heat Waves” and “Tangerine.” He also tells how he and the band decided to release their album in the midst of the pandemic and lockdown.ĭK: You’ve said that the Dreamland album is more autobiographical than your first two albums. We are pleased to do this new Q&A interview with Dave Bayley of Glass Animals. Other excellent songs on the album are “Tangerine” (which Bayley wrote with hit pop songwriter, Starrah), the title cut ”Dreamland” (which creates a dreamy, sonic landscape) and the rhythmic, dance track “Your Love (Déjà Vu).” Glass Animals Interview This is a terrific version that will give the song added exposure and a further boost on the charts. Notably, Glass Animals has just released a new version of “Heat Waves” that features rapper/singer Iann Diorr. Here’s the video of Glass Animals’ hit, “Heat Waves.” In the song, Bayley sings, “Sometimes, all I think about is you, Late nights in the middle of June,” because he sadly remembers that this person’s birthday was in June. But below the surface, it also has a sadder lyric theme about losing a person that was important to them. On the surface, the single is an upbeat, funky pop song that has hooky harmonies in the chorus. Their hit “Heat Waves” is a good example of the band’s musical personality and lyrical honesty. Following the emotional, heartfelt impact of their 2016 song “Agnes” (it was about the suicide of a friend), Bayley decided to write about more personal events and experiences for the new album. According to Bayley, the band’s Dreamland album is their most autobiographical work to date. It is Bayley’s creative vision and personality which guides the four-member band, which includes Drew MacFarlane (guitar, keyboards), Ed Irwin-Singer (bass, keyboards) and Joe Seaward (drums).īayley & Glass Animals have developed a distinctive, imaginative sound that combines a pop & electronic approach, hooky melodies and choruses, with unique and sometimes quirky lyric ideas. For example, dry earwax is more common in East Asians. Some people are simply born producing dry earwax that may be more likely to clump. And with age, the glandular secretions change consistency, so they don't travel as easily through the ear canal. Conditions that produce a lot of dry, flaking skin, like eczema, can also result in hard earwax. Jaw movement from chewing or talking helps propel those secretions through the canal to the ear opening, where they dry up and harmlessly flake off. It starts as a mixture of fatty secretions from the sebaceous glands and sweat glands in the walls of the outer ear canal (see illustration). ![]() The medical term for earwax is cerumen (pronounced seh-ROO-men), which comes from cera, Latin for wax. Of course, sometimes it's difficult to tell if the wax is the source of a problem without removing it and seeing whether the problem goes away. Guidelines from the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery stress a let-it-be attitude toward earwax and warn against removal unless the earwax is causing a problem. And, not surprisingly, an excess of earwax can result in some loss of hearing.
